Lateral violence, a social phenomenon characterized by harmful behaviors such as bullying, harassment, gossiping, and undermining individuals at the same hierarchical level or within the same group, has profound implications within diverse settings, including healthcare and workplace environments.

This course provides a comprehensive examination of lateral violence, delving into its underlying causes across different cultural contexts. With the importance of Indigenous ways of knowing and doing, the curriculum integrates perspectives and insights for fostering harmony and respect within communities.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the historical and systemic factors contributing to lateral violence, with a particular emphasis on the impact of colonialism and intergenerational trauma on Indigenous communities.

By incorporating Indigenous knowledge systems and practices, the course equips participants with culturally relevant strategies to recognize, prevent, and address lateral violence effectively. Through a wholistic approach that respects diverse ways of knowing and doing, participants will learn how to promote healthier and more inclusive environments, grounded in principles of respect, reciprocity, and community well-being.
